High Commissioner on National Minorities OSCE Knut Vollebæk has visited Crimea

KIYV, April 23th. Inhabitants of Crimea always sufficed and wisdom and prudence will suffice to keep stable a political situation on peninsula and together, irrespective of a nationality and creed, strenuously to work over the permission of essential Crimean problems, the High Commissioner on National Minorities OSCE Knut Vollebæk who has arrived to an autonomy within the limits of official visit to Ukraine.

As transfers «the Crimean news agency», Alla Goreva has informed on it the Press Secretary of the chairman of the Supreme Rada of autonomous republic Crimea.

She has noticed that, according to Knut Vollebæk, he intends to study maintenance of the educational rights of ethnic Russian in Ukraine, realisation of their other rights and freedom, to visit a number of educational institutions of the country where teaching in Russian is conducted, and also to hold meetings with scientific elite of high schools and representatives of Russian communities.

Following the results of a meeting of the commissioner of OSCE with a management of Crimea the parties have summed up that all national minorities living in Crimea, have a constitutional law on development of the languages and the nobody's rights should not restraining.

We will remind, in December, 2008 of OSCE initiated comparative research of maintenance of the educational rights of ethnic Ukrainians in Russia and ethnic Russian on Ukraine.

It is necessary to notice that last year on the eve of Day of the Ukrainian writing and the language marked in Ukraine on November, 9th in honour of an Ukrainian language letopisets (ancient writer) Nestor — the follower of creators of slavic writing Cyril and Mefodiy, the High Commissioner on National Minorities OSCE Knut Vollebæk urged Ukraine not to impose the Ukrainian language to citizens. Thus the representative of OSCE has drawn a historical parallel. «In my opinion, is better to strengthen state language positions, without using force, restrictions or sanctions as as the history learns, it leads only to confrontation. It is impossible to strengthen one language at the expense of another», — has specified Vollebæk.
